Dr. David Bloom, MD PhD

Board Certified Radiation Oncologist

Doctor David Bloom is a Florida native who received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in Pharmacology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, focusing on cancer research. Because of his desire to continue his work in the field of oncology, he returned to the University of Florida to attend medical school. Following medical school, Dr. Bloom completed an internship in internal medicine at the University of Florida and was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Bloom completed residency training in Radiation Oncology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Bloom has conducted extensive cancer research which has been published in peer reviewed scientific journals. He has trained under one of the world experts in stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR or SBRT), a newer technique which safely delivers higher doses of radiation in fewer treatments. This can be more effective for certain cancers, and is more convenient for patients. Along with all of Dr. Bloom’s achievements, he comes to Wellspring and our local area with a passion for patient centered care and delivering the most effective radiation therapy for cancer treatment.

Dr. Frank Franzese, MD

Board Certified Radiation Oncologist

Doctor Frank Franzese is a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist who completed his residency at New York University- Bellevue Medical Center and fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

 He has been practicing since 1992 at which time he helped start the cancer program at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St Petersburg, Florida, serving as the Director of Brachytherapy and Conformal Radiotherapy, as well as the Medical Director at Palms of Pasadena Hospital in Pinellas County.

Dr. Franzese received training in GammaKnife Radiosurgery at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden and is the Director of the CyberKnife Radiosurgery program.

Dr. Craig Miercort, MD

Board Certified Radiation Oncologist

Craig R. Miercort, M.D. received his Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado College in Colorado Springs. He earned his Medical Degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine and completed his internship in Internal Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, Fresno.

His Radiation Oncology residency took him to the University of Utah/LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Dr. Miercort also served as Chief Resident. During that time, he was honored with the prestigious American Medical Association Physician's Recognition Award for his commitment to patient care through medical education. Dr. Miercort also served as the Radiation Oncologist and Vice President of the Cancer Institute of Guam for a year. He is Board-Certified in Radiation Oncology and remains active in professional organizations including the Pinellas County Board of the American Cancer Society, the Steering Committee for Breast Cancer at St. Anthony's Hospital and the Hillsborough County Medical Association.

Dr. Stephen Shamp, MD

Board Certified Radiation Oncologist

Doctor Stephen Shamp received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. He went on to receive his Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from the University of South Florida with Phi Kappa Phi Honors. He then earned a Masters in Science in Physiology from the University of Cincinnati and was bestowed the Mark A Snowdon Award for outstanding academic achievements. He then obtained his Medical Doctorate (MD) from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where he graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honors. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati.  

Doctor Shamp then completed his residency training in Radiation Oncology at Case Western University Hospitals Cleveland, where he served as Chief Resident and received the RSNA Roentgen Resident Research Award.  He is author and co-primary investigator of CASE1518 clinical trial of external beam radiation therapy combined with immunotherapy in non-small cell lung cancer, and has presented at numerous scientific conferences.
